About
Sony
Sony's cinema-camera business sits within the broader Sony Group's Imaging Products & Solutions division, headquartered in Tokyo. The cinema arm produces the VENICE and VENICE 2 full-frame cameras (the company's flagship cinema bodies), the FX9 and FX6 documentary-and-episodic workhorses, and the BURANO compact full-frame released in 2024.
The VENICE line uses Sony's S-Gamut3.Cine color space and S-Log3 encoding, with switchable internal NDs and a dual-base-ISO sensor (800/3200). The cameras have been adopted on tentpoles including Top Gun: Maverick (which used VENICE 1 in custom IMAX-Certified mode), Avatar: The Way of Water (where Cameron's stereoscopic 3D rig housed VENICE bodies), and a substantial slice of Netflix originals.
Beyond cinema cameras, Sony also produces broadcast lenses (HDC series), professional monitors, and the BVM-HX line of HDR mastering displays used in many of the world's grading suites.
