About
LOMO / CKBM
LOMO (Leningrad Optical Mechanical Association) was the principal optical-instrument manufacturer of the Soviet Union, producing scientific, military and cinema lenses through the second half of the 20th century. The cinema arm produced the Round Front and Square Front anamorphic primes, the OKS spherical sets, and the Foton 100mm zoom — all in OCT-19 and OCT-18 mounts originally.
In the 2010s and 2020s a market emerged for PL-rehoused LOMO anamorphics, prized for their pronounced flare characteristics, exaggerated focus falloff, and field curvature that produces a recognisable filmic distortion. The lenses have been used on The Lighthouse, Bird Box, and a long list of A24 / Neon-distributed independent features.
