About
Leitz Cine
Leitz Cine Wetzlar (originally CW Sonderoptic) was founded in 2007 as a Leica Camera AG subsidiary dedicated to cinema lenses. The company operates from the Leica campus in Wetzlar, Germany and shares the parent company's optical-design heritage — the Leica M-mount Summilux line directly inspired the Summilux-C and Summicron-C cinema sets.
Leitz lenses cover the Summilux-C T1.4 primes, Summicron-C T2.0 primes, the Thalia large-format primes, and the Hugo / Henri / Prime hand-tuned vintage rehouse sets aimed at the look-driven end of the market. The company is also one of the most prominent third-party lines built around the LPL mount.
Carl Zeiss, ARRI and Leitz between them define almost all the cinema-grade prime lenses used on tentpole productions today; Leitz is the smallest of the three and operates at the boutique end of the market.
