About
Angénieux
Angénieux was founded in 1935 in Saint-Héand, France by Pierre Angénieux as an optical-design firm; the company moved into cinema lenses in the 1950s and is now part of the Thales Group. The Saint-Héand factory remains the manufacturing site for all current cinema lens lines.
Angénieux has been the dominant supplier of zoom lenses for cinema for half a century. The Optimo line covers everything from the 15-40mm and 28-76mm DP zooms through the long-tele Optimo Style 30-76mm, the Optimo Anamorphic zooms, and the recent Optimo Ultra and EZ-series. The company's zooms hold the longest record at the Academy Awards for Scientific & Engineering achievements among lens manufacturers.
The brand sits at the intersection of cinema and broadcast — Angénieux ENG zooms appear on most ESPN and Sky productions, while the Optimo line is the standard for narrative cinema work where focal-range flexibility matters.
